Author Interview & Book Giveaway: Wishless by Louise Caiola

Welcome to Author Louise Caiola

Bio:

Louise Caiola has called Long Island her home ever since she was a little girl dreaming up her very first plot. It is here she resides with her offspring including but not limited to one very spoiled six-pound canine. A confirmed bibliophile with an insatiable appetite for the written word, Louise began her writing career by completing several years of study through Cayuga College’s online instructional program. This lead to the production of an extensive collection of short stories currently available for viewing through the e-zine www.faithhopeandfiction.com. The publication of these works sparked the desire to create and complete a book or two of her own. The culmination of these efforts came forth in WISHLESS, her debut novel. The dream and obsession lives on with her second novel, GIRLS LIKE HER currently in the capable hands of her agent, Terrie Wolf of AKA Literary Agency. She invites you to visit her website: http://www.louisecaiola.com/ and her blog: http://louisecaiola.blogspot.com/. You can follow her on twitter:  http://twitter.com/#!/lcwritten.

Interview:
Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
With all the daily stress and weighty details of our lives, reading my book, Wishless, will offer a much-needed break, a chance to feel lighter, to forget your worries for a while and sit back, relax and be entertained!

When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?
My little-girl goals varied, depending on the day. At any given moment I wanted to be a: mother, chef, teacher, vet, space cowgirl, interior designer, First Lady, a member of the Partridge Family and, oh yes, a writer.

What inspired you to want to become a writer?
A lifetime of reading and falling in love with the books that I’ve invited into my world gives me the inspiration to create stories of my own for other readers to (hopefully) savor and enjoy.

Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
I see tiny traces of myself in almost all of my characters. Typically they are a composite of the best and worst traits. For the most part, though, the characters I write are complete strangers who arrive in my brain clamoring to be heard.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Chessie’s theme song is “If I Die Young,” by The Band Perry.

How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?
To celebrate the sale/release of Wishless we are having a book signing party at The Book Revue in New York on November 12th for friends, family and anyone who is up for having a good time. If you’re in that neck of the woods, come on down!

Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
My agent, Terrie Wolf of AKA Literary is handling my next project, a novel entitled “Girls like Her” an older YA that I’m hoping to see “out there” in the near future. In addition, I have a work in progress, a novel with elements of mystery that I’m fairly stoked about. After all, Nancy Drew was my first literary hero.

What is your guilty pleasure?
I’m fascinated by people with psychic ability. I am so into watching shows where Mediums communicate with the great beyond. I’m waiting patiently for Elvis to reveal his next top ten hit.

What’s your favorite season?
I’m a summer girl – shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, sun, sand, sea. Yes! My fave by far.

Skittles or M&M’s?
Can’t I have both with a side order of Reese’s Pieces?

In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with?
There are two authors I’d just love to write with; Laurie Halse Anderson and J.K. Rowling. Pretty wild dreamer, aren’t I?

Wishless by Louise Caiola:
Can strangers become sisters, a long-lost father become a dad, and can love really conquer all? The challenge is extreme-the stakes have never been higher. The fortune cookies tease her. You will lead a long and happy life. Those dumb things are never right. Chessie Madrid wants to fall in love, she wants to fly airplanes, and most of all she wants to live longer than 6752 days. With a fatal disease camped inside of her wreaking havoc since she turned sixteen, the doctor's predictions are far more sinister. Preparing for death is a total drag. Instead, Chessie makes a list of her deepest desires, keeping her impending demise a secret, and being pretend-well. When the list suddenly starts to come true, sending Chessie's life and everything in it reeling, it's a case of being careless what you wish for. With a new sister she's always dreamed of, a father who's a nightmare, and a lesson in love arriving all at once, Chessie makes her last wish the one that will matter most of all-to live or die trying.
