This month’s Scrapbook layout theme has been decided by Delys Cram. I love making my own DIY Backgrounds and the chance to be creative with them.

FInished DIY Creative Background using 2021-2023 In Colors, Forever Fern Brushed Blooms stamp sets.

For my DIY Creative Background I wanted to have one photo on my scrapbook layout and to stamp a pattern around it. I found a photo of me when I was about 4 years old. I noticed that the flowers on the dress were similar to those in the Brushed Blooms stamp set.

Making DIY Creative Backgrounds

For my DIY background I chose a 12×12 Basic White page and in the middle I drew the outline of the photo I was going to use with a pencil.

Next I chose to use the 2021-2023 In Colours as they go so well together. I started by stamping the large flower image from the Brushed Blooms stamp set in Polished Pink ink around the edge of the page. Next I stamped the smaller flower image using Fresh Freesia around the edge trying to make it look random. I noticed that there were some large white spaces so I stamped the small flower image in Polished Pink.

As I wanted to add some leaves so I chose to use the Forever Fern stamp set. I started by stamping the larger leaf images using Evening Evergreen ink and Soft Succulent ink. Next I chose the smaller leaves and stamped them using Evening Evergreen ink around the pencil frame. Then I filled in any gaps using the other leaves in the stamp set and Soft Succulent ink.

I needed to fill in the smaller white spaces so I chose the dotty image from the Brushed Blooms stamp set and to stamp them all over the page using Pale Papaya ink.

Next I cut a Smoky Slate mat layer and a Basic Grey mat layer to fit the photo. I mounted the photo onto the mat layers and stuck it to the page along three sides. I left the fourth side unstuck so I could add in a pull out tab to put my journalling.

Next I cut Smoky Slate card stock to fit underneath the photo and added a Basic White layer on top to write on. For the pull out tab I used the Banners Pick a Punch and to finish it off I stamped the smaller flower image in the top right hand corner.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my DIY Creative Background and that it has given you an idea to try yourself. I love that I could make the background to this page by using stamp sets and ink.
