Stamping Sunday — New In Colors

By | May 9, 2021

Happy Mother’s Day and welcome to the Stamping Sunday Blog Hop for May hosted by Sara Levin. We have a special treat for you today! We are focusing our projects on the new 2021-2023 In Colors! I seriously LOVE all five, so I can’t wait to see what the designers create. Be sure to follow the links at the bottom of this post to continue on through the rest of the blog hop for lots of inspiration.

For this blog hop, the designers have two choices. We can design 1) three versions of a card for beginner, casual, and avid stampers, or 2) a 3D project and a card. I chose the first option, featuring the beautiful Hand-Penned Petals Bundle. This beautiful bundle includes the Hand-Penned Petals Photopolymer Stamps, with delicate flowers that are perfect for coloring, and the coordinating Penned Flowers Dies.

Beginner Stamper:

For my beginner project, I created a simple gift tag using the Delightful Tag Topper Punch. This punch is so easy to use! Simply cut a 2″ strip of Fresh Freesia Cardstock and punch the top.

I added a few layers, which involved using the Penned Flowers Dies, but you could easily choose to simplify this tag by stamping directly on one Basic White Cardstock layer and cutting straight borders on the bottom of the tag.

For the background layer, I cut a matching 2″ strip of Basic White Cardstock and used Blending Brushes to add Pale Papaya and Fresh Freesia ink to create a blended background. Then, I stamped the small background flowers with the same colors.

Next, I stamped the large flowers with Memento ink on Basic White Cardstock and colored them with Stampin’ Blend Markers in three of the new 2021 In Colors, including Polished Pink, Fresh Freesia, and Soft Succulent.

Final details include adding a few 2021 In Color Jewels, a sentiment stamped with Memento ink and trimmed close, and a bow tied with Fresh Freesia 3/8″ Open Weave Ribbon. I cut a long strip of the ribbon in half lengthwise to create two narrow strips. Then, I used a short strip to feed through the tag top, and two longer strips to tie a double bow around that ribbon. Way easier then it sounds!

Casual Stamper:

For my casual project, I converted the design into a card and added a few more layers and a technique. I also added some texturing to the background with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder.

This time, I used Polished Pink and Pale Papaya ink to create the ink blended background. Then, I used a Water Painter to flick clear water droplets over the entire layer and remove some of the color. Lastly, I added a layer of True Love Designer Series Paper behind the blended layer to really make it pop.

Similar to the first project, I stamped the flower image with Memento ink on Basic White Cardstock, but this time, I used all five 2021 In Colors to color the flowers The additional colors add more depth, especially to the stem and leaves.

The Penned Flowers Dies include a beautiful detailed die-cut that I added to the background, as well as that gorgeous scalloped edge. Then, I stepped-up the sentiment layer by stamping and embossing in white on Basic Black Cardstock and cutting it out with the Messages Die.

To create the bow, I again cut a long strip of 3/8″ Open Weave Ribbon in half lengthwise to create two narrow strips. Then, I wrapped the strips around my fingers and used a separate strip to tie a tight knot in the center. I really love the versatility of this ribbon!

Avid Stamper:

For my avid card, I flipped the card to a landscape orientation and stepped-up the difficulty even more by adding some embossing paste to the background and a few more layers.

After creating the ink blended background with Polished Pink and Fresh Freesia ink, I applied a layer of Embossing Paste using a Basic Pattern Decorative Mask. I love the added texture of embossing paste!

The rest of this card is very similar to the Casual card, except I added some additional individual flower die-cuts and Loose Flower Flourishes.

I again used the Messages Die to cut out the sentiment and then created a similar, larger double bow.

I hope these projects inspired you. The Hand-Penned Petals Bundle is definitely one of my favorites!

Enjoy your Sunday and I hope all the moms who read this have a wonderful day filled with the love and pampering they deserve! xxxooo
