the sketchbook hypothesis

October 1, 2011
by

when I went out of town to visit my mom a few days ago, I decided to travel with a sketchbook rather than an actual book to keep myself occupied in the airport and in transit.  And I did in fact work through a handful of new ideas.

The process of idea generation on paper is new for me.  I usually let things marinate in my head until I can see the results in my minds eye.  But that takes a long time.  This process was amazingly fast.

I came home and the very next day went to Round Top (more on that here) with Cristybella, where I saw this little cutie (the paper tassel).

Before I know it, my sketchbook is tossed to the side and here I am making my own version of the paper tassel.

I pierced through the top of my fringed paper bundle with a needle and threaded a short piece of wire through the roll to secure.  Then I added my button embellishment on a strand of hemp.  I like the simplicity of these, but also like the more elaborate embellishments on the original version too.

Paper + Tassels = fabulousness in my opinion.  I love them and can envision a few more of these in my future.  Sketchbook ideas notwithstanding.

Thank you for reading and hope you’re having a completely wonderful weekend 🙂

Diane, these paper tassels are DARLING!

You always blow me away with your creativity. You take an idea and then make it YOURS. And that’s the sign of a TRUE artist!

“I usually let things marinate in my head until I can see the results in my minds eye.”

I’m the same way whenever creating something (whether it be a blog post, photgraph, or acting). I like to let thinks stew a bit and BAM…suddenly I get a vision or a feeling.

Thanks for sharing, dear friend. Hope you’re having a delightful weekend!

    X to you and C!
