decorating on the prairie: remodeling the family room

~Welcome to Home Haven~
This is our humble abode in our 126 year old native Cottonwood Limestone House nestled in the Kansas Flint Hills.

This is our attempt to glamor~ize an oldie but goodie 2 story house
in need of tender loving care.

Please come inside and take a look around
as we're DECORATING On The PRAIRIE.
THE MESS CONTINUES....

~Remodeling the Family Room~

As Decorating On The Prairie continues...here are some pics off the internet that my husband drew and shared with me concerning our hopes towards what will go up along one wall in the Family room by the Dining room door and the stairs leading upwards.  I liked it so much that I got really excited seeing this room completed on paper and in my head!!!

What does the Bible say about taking an idea, writing it down and running with it?  We're running with this idea.
King James Bible says in HABAKKUK 2:2  And the LORD answered me, and said, write the vision, and make it plain upon the tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Beaded Board is going up.  Hubby will build a Book Shelf to store our books, videos and stereo in the Family room.  I'm foaming at the mouth waiting for this to come forth.

Some Board has already gone up.  In our old stone house with the plastered walls over the stone, it isn't as easy to hang photos and pictures without damaging the walls.  I'm very excited that on this beaded board I will hang many Family Pictures to enjoy.  They'll warm the room and look like somebody actually lives in this house.

As for the color of the walls...I have bounced around all over the place changing my mind.

Ridiculous how I cannot decide.

I have a coffee mug about the same color as my daughter's outfit and when she came home from work...I thought...you know....I like this color you're wearing....i like this color.  I like this color.....I mean I really like this color.  Looks like we're leaning toward a lighter shade of this blue for the walls.  The throw pillows I have on the sofa have this color in the print.

Happy and thankful that work is getting done on the Family room.
So Decorating On The Prairie continues.....and as life would have it...it will continue for quite some time.

The room is morphing right along.
Pictures to follow.
It's a work in progress...kind of like us as people.

To the left of the Dining Room door and behind the File Cabinet is ancient wallpaper on the walls that will be covered by a built in book shelf.

We're inching along.  When it's completed...I will be soooooo happy I will CRY.

FROM THIS..............

TO THIS..........................can we do it?

Let's HOPE so.

Thank you for stopping by Home Haven.
God richly bless you,
~Deanna~

WOW!!!! What a huge difference since I was there a few years ago. Love you new smooth walls and pretty bead board. Are you going to paint it the same color as the other walls? Looking great!

Hi Stephanie. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
We plan on painting the beaded board the same color as the paintable wall covering when it goes up. The lower part of the walls will be white.
It's been a slow job....gotta stay on it and get 'er done.
God bless!

Enjoyed seeing the progress! Thanks sweetheart.

Despite each pilot hole for each masonry screw has to be drilled 3" in to solid limestone , the beaded board has gone up rather quick. Now to get that bookshelf media center built. :)

Thank you, Deanna, for your visit and comment. I miss you all. Please be praying; I have a huge job interview at a Christian university Friday am, 9/2/2011! Also, good Lord willing, I graduate in December! I have already started applying to PhD programs...getting there, slow but sure. Hubby is still unemployed.

I love your pictures and best of all the verse...I am borrowing that right now for my practicum which consists of 180 hours of teaching and planning besides work! Perfect words, thank you for the reminder!

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
