Thomas B. Dewey’s first published novel is a fun, fairly light-hearted murder mystery featuring Singer Batts, intellectual and hotel owner, along with his right-hand man, hotel manager and narrator, Joe Spinder. Here they investigate the murder of a somewhat sleazy schoolteacher found dead in her hotel room. The drug underworld and the marijuana scenes are somewhat unbelievable, but the mystery is well done and well told. I’m looking forward to reading more of these and am very grateful that Wildside Press has made these available in one of their Megapacks.
