A Half-Price book find, costing on $3, of a very cleaned-up ex-library copy of the William Goodwin 1933 hardcover, for which someone has paid $22 for a reproduction dust jacket. A Miami police detective goes aboard ship to track down the murderer of a New York City detective. The purpose of the cruise is to find a long-lost pirate treasure, but is it the pirate’s ghost who is causing the deaths aboard ship or is it a human agent? Not to be a spoiler, but it is a human, of course. There isn’t anything terribly quirky or distinctive about the detective, nor is the mystery all that convoluted. Still, a solid 1930s mystery novel.
