collage nested in an old door
Last year while creating homemade package decorations and Christmas tree trimmings, I fell under the spell of making pretty crafty things with paper. I wanted to try something on a much much larger scale.
First, I made a small prototype. Next I expanded the creative thinking with a nod to mosaic artistry and completed a project that I hope to continue producing, along with Cristybella under the label loveprints.
But now. It is time. Time for the collage that has been forming in my mind since the early moments of 2011. So I procured a 2-panel wooden door from the architectural salvage shop. Cut into two pieces, the larger panel serves as both canvas and frame for this project. (Another project will emerge for the smaller panel, no worries there.)
an artful combination of paper stripes complete the collage. sourced from my collection of road maps, reproduction cartographs and stamped paper.
together, they make a colorful collage that complements the architecturally historical canvas upon which it is composed. the door itself, a well preserved hardwood piece, still has its original latching mechanism and the worn edges hint at its age.
combined with a few other pieces from the permanent Cristy & Diane collection, it adds character and dimension to the hallway space that now serves as an artful pathway leading into our home. Not so long ago, this pretty hallway was empty. What were we thinking?!
We needed to relocate the abaci from the guest room-office to accommodate an oversized photo pinboard now taking residence in that spot. But happily, the 2 abacus pieces are charming in their new landing place.
Thank you for joining me on this little tour. This particular collage project was thrilling to produce! Hope you have had a wonderful weekend 🙂

Oh yeah. I do love it. I saw a similar project done on a smaller scale with junk mail but this is just uber cool. I think it is worthy of a name. I am reading my mail and just got your previous post. I really am not a crazy stalker. 🙂

Love the piece and love the hall! I was just given three old window frames from a 1800s house here in Sweden. Two of them have glass, one doesn’t. Hmmm…thoughts are ticking!
