ONE ROOM CHALLENGE | WEEK SIX: THE DINING ROOM REVEAL

Well, the last six weeks have flown by and here’s where we are now…

I couldn’t be more pleased with where the dining room is at right now compared to when I started on this One Room Challenge. Sure, there are things that didn’t get done, and things I may end up changing out, but having an almost finished space is incredible.

What didn’t I get done / finished / picture perfect? A rug for starters – right up until Tuesday I was endlessly debating with myself about the pros and cons of having a rug in the dining room. I still think I’d like one, to add a little more texture and colour to the room, but I just wasn’t prepared to get something I wasn’t 100% sold on just to have “better” pictures for this reveal. I’m happy to live with the space as it is and wait until I find something that will be just right for the room.
You may also have spotted there are only five dining chairs – I couldn’t find a sixth that wasn’t ridiculously priced so again, I’m happy to bide my time and pick one up with the time, AND price, is right.

I’d also like to add some more artwork to the corner of the room to the left of the sliding doors but again, it can wait. I’d like to have the biere vintage print reframed at some point and I think I’ll probably add some kind of large plant to the right of the fauxdenza (the side that has the vase of flowers on currently). I’m not sure what yet, but I will try to resist the temptation to go full blogger cliche and get a fiddle leaf fig!

The fauxdenza will probably be eternally fussed with, as I attempt to perfect the styling, but in some ways I like how it looks on these pictures. It isn’t perfectly styled but it’s a real reflection of how the room will be used. Yeah, the SONOS sitting pretty ugly next to the lamp isn’t the most attractive thing in the world but I like my background music so it’s not going anywhere and removing it from the pictures would have felt a little false to me.

  1. Love the minimalist style of your space, and that light fixture is fabulous Amy! Congrats and CHEERS to us for another room done!

  2. I love the simplicity of this space, and I completely agree that you should wait to find the right rug and artwork, rather than getting something just for the reveal. You did a great job!

  3. Love it. You are so wise to wait and get what you want at the right price. That fauxdenza is perfect for the space. I laughed at this: ‘….but I will try to resist the temptation to go full blogger cliche and get a fiddle leaf fig!’ I think a Yucca Cane plant would be perfect in that spot (and much easier to grow).
