gifts from the garden
trimming back the potted plants is necessary to keep them healthy as we move through the hot Texas summer. naturally, I keep the trimmings and place them in my kitchen window in jars of water to root. but I don’t really need any new plants, so I’ve been giving some away to family and coworkers.
it’s good karma, in my opinion, to share gifts from the garden.
my little plant-to-go containers are made from junk mail paper. I wrap 2 catalog pages around a small jar, tape the folds to secure and trim the tops. then I add 2 more round discs cut from heavier scrap paper in the bottom of each paper cup, to give it some durability before transplanting the young plant.
then I just tie a scrap fabric band around the paper cup, add a banner made from a toothpick and send the plant on its way.
well, I’m off to the store to get another jar of Mod Podge for my collage project. it is nearly complete and I am very excited about the progress.
happy weekend to everyone 🙂 and thank you for reading!

Diane, these are so cute I could SCREAM.
It amazes me how you come up with such great ideas for recycling!
The scrap fabric band around the paper cup is darling. And I LOVE the little toothpick banner!!!
And btw, that basil looks heavenly!
Hope you’re enjoying a beautiful weekend, my friend.
X to you and Cristybella!
these are my favorite kinds of gifts! I plan on drying my herbs to share with others.
How smart are you?! Junk mail~and they’re so CUTE!
You are the queen of recycling/upcycling. I just crowned you.
I love herbs and always give the dried herbs away…really never considered sharing the actual plant…Love this idea!! Great way to recycle, too!

A lovely way to give a beautiful gift, and very useful. Love it.
I love this! I often feel bad throwing out magazines and this is a perfect solution! Thanks so much for linking it up to my {re}create into something new blog party! Hope to see you next week for some more awe inspiring transformations!

Beautifully done. It presents the plants as a gift, but is totally practical for repotting!
