Top Ten Albums I've Listened To When Reading A Book

34
This may seem strange to some of you but I love a good album to listen to whilst reading a book, whether it's the soundtrack film adaption of the book or a completely random album as long as for me it seems to go well with the mood of the book then I love it. Sometimes I find myself finishing a book quicker too. When I read Far From The Madding Crowd I listened to the film soundtrack to immerse myself into the Hardy universe- and you know what it was rather lovely. I have a load of examples but today I'm sharing my top ten with you...

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare (A Present For Everyone- Busted)

For some reason this album just kind of clicked with the first three books of TMI- particularly the songs 'Fake' and 'Meet You There.' I'm not phased by when this album was released, it's basically my childhood and I'll always love it!

Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard (Unguarded- Rae Morris)

One of the most delicate reads I've had the pleasure of experiencing last year and Rae Morris' gracious voice is stunning- the last few chapters with the song 'Not Knowing' really got the tears flowing.

Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling (Harry Potter Film soundtracks duh!)

Having the perfect soundtrack to one of your favourite series basically tops everything, you can really immerse yourself into the world of witches and wizards with this sound track- sonorus!

The DUFF by Kody Keplinger (Fearless- Taylor Swift)

Taylor Swift and love go hand in hand, and for this book that was the perfectly cute American high school cliche- his album was spot on and the book had me in stitches!

One Day by David Nicholls (Tracy Chapman self titled album)

One of my most favourite books ever like wow, and Tracy Chapman's soft hum of a voice is gorgeous when snuggling up with this book- oh and ironically 'Talkin' Bout' A Revolution' was used in the film adaption too!

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green ( + - Ed Sheeran)

I can't fault John Green (see what I did there?) nor can I with Ed either- this album and book are meant to be so get your earphones and fall in love with Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters!

Every Day by David Levithan (Eyes Open- Snow Patrol)

Okay okay Snow Patrol are a big deal to me and I wouldn't partner them with any old book no- David Levithan's Every Day is the most worthy to read whilst listening to this spectacular album of love. Seriously both are my favourites- give them a try.

Armada by Ernest Cline (Flamingo- Brandon Flowers)

Being a badass gamer who's about to save the world needs a decent "power to the people" kind of sound right? Well Brandon's 'Crossfire' song is the song that gets you fist pumping and in the mood to kick alien ass!

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green (Working My Way Back To You- Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons)

This album screams Tiny Cooper- the upbeat songs would be perfect for Tiny's play for definite. I love Frankie Valli, his song is so quirky and unique- just like this wonderful book starring two Will Grayson's.

The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins (Night Visions- Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons' songs are full of loud drums and fast beats that gets your heart thumping, and in a book that's so on edge and nail biting it's pretty much a match made in heaven.

Do any of you listen to music while you read? Sometimes I can put on a song and thank "actually this sounds good whilst I'm reading this," it can be the most bizarre album and not related to the book in any way but hey for some reason music helps me read quicker and sometimes helps immerse myself into that particular world.

What are your reading habits? Does music put you off reading?

I hope you're having a great week.

Hugs and love,
