A stand-alone Kane novel, not part of his Peter Chambers series, this mystery features a well-to-do theatrical agency executive who in a drunken moment hires a hitman to kill his difficult wife. He soon repents, but cannot locate the hitman in time to call him off before the first murder. A somewhat suspenseful race against time and death, this novel suffers a bit from a stiff and unsympathetic lead. A good, solid, quick read, though not exceptional.
