DIY Geometric Heart Air Plant Holder

This DIY Geometric Heart Air Plant Holder is an easy way to display small air plants for Valentine’s Day!

During my latest round of cleaning and organizing the office (I’ve been doing a lot of that lately!), I decided to finally do something with my brand new tub of air dry clay.  That something would end up being a cute way to display one of my many air plants. 

I have so many air plants in the house right now!  Some have surprisingly been thriving for a couple of years.  Others were purchased for DIY projects.  And one very large air plant just showed up with an order (no complaints from me!).

If you look around my house, there’s probably an air plant in almost every room at this point.  So I’ve had to get creative with displaying them.  With Valentine’s Day coming up, I am all about hearts!  So I took my air dry clay and a heart cookie cutter and got to work on a new air plant holder.

SUPPLIES

• Air dry clay
• Large heart cookie cutter
• Straw
• Gold paint marker
• Ruler 
• Small air plant

STEPS

1. Form a decent chunk of air dry clay into a ball.  Then, flatten that ball into a disk.  Make sure the disk is on the thicker side, but not larger than your cookie cutter.
2. Next, use your cookie cutter to cut a heart shape out of your clay disk.  Smooth edges, as needed.
3. Flatten one side of your heart so it will stand up properly.  Then, use your straw to poke a hole into the top of the heart. 
4. Allow clay to dry completely, about 24-48 hours.
5. Use a ruler to draw a geometric pattern across the heart with gold paint marker. 
6. Allow marker to dry.  Then, display a small air plant in the top of the heart.

This air plant holder doesn’t scream “Valentine’s Day,” so you can leave it out all year ’round!  But it would make a really cute Valentine’s Day gift for green thumbs, too.
