This year has been a big year for me and my blog. I had set a goal in January to work harder, publish better content, feature better projects and recipes, work on my photo styling, take better pictures, and really try to grow my brand. The one thing most people don’t seem to get is how much work actually goes into blogging. That was something my husband didn’t seem to understand. Until this year.
He saw how much work was coming my way and how many nights and weekends I’ve run myself ragged to create new projects and make my deadlines. I must say, he’s been a huge help, too! If I asked for his input, he would give his honest opinion. He’s even gotten hands-on with some of my projects and has helped cook up some of my recipes! He built me shelving for our home office so I could keep organized and even re-purposed one of his light stands into a stand for my photo backdrops.
This year, I got an early Christmas present from him – a new camera – so I can continue working on stepping up my game. I’ve been giving him some gifts along the way, too. Nothing quite as big, but just my way of saying “thank you for being wonderful you.”
One of the first gifts I ever gave my husband was a cologne gift set. We had just started dating in January 2008 and I gave him the gift set as a Valentine’s Day present that year. I mean, it’s a pretty safe gift to give when you’re still just getting to know someone! I’m all about reflecting on those special moments in life this time of year – especially with our dating anniversary just around the corner! So when I spotted this Nautica Voyage gift set during a trip to CVS, I picked it up as an early Christmas gift for my husband.
The plan was to wrap it up and leave it on the kitchen table for him to see when he got home from work that night. In our hall closet, I have a bag of brown paper bags. That’s right! A bag full of bags! They’re from many shopping trips to some of my favorite health food stores. You know the ones – fun graphics and cute handles to tote your goods. They’ve come in very handy to wrap up boxes for shipping. So I decided to have a little fun wrapping my husband’s gift with a brown paper bag, baker’s twine, and some washi tape!
SUPPLIES
- Brown paper bag
- Washi tape
- Baker’s twine
- Scissors
- Clear tape
STEPS
- If using a paper bag with handles, carefully remove the handles from the bag. Cut off the bottom of the bag, then make a cut down the middle to open the bag into one, flat sheet.
- Turn the blank side of the bag over so the side with print is facing you. Wrap your gift as you normally would.
- Use washi tape to create fun, festive shapes (like my geometric “trees”) on the front of the gift.
- Tie baker’s twine a few times around the box, then tie the ends into a bow. It’s a wrap!
This is such a simple way to dress up your gifts this holiday and upcycle some of those brown paper bags that pile up! As for the gift itself, my husband really enjoyed his gift set and I really enjoy the way he smells wearing it!
Nautica Voyage is a nice, light, aquatic scent with the slightest hint of seductive amber to drive a girl wild!
