Essex Side Table

Posted on

Back in April, I found this cute little side table at a great thrift store in Westchester County. Imagine three floors of nothing but furniture,  home items!! Say it with me…cue the harps..HEAVEN!!

I was able to get it at a great price after much haggling and I brought it home where it sat in my family room for another two weeks.

It wasn’t in bad shape, the hardware was perfect for the look I wanted.  My living room furniture is dark brown leather and my walls are a color named vanilla brandy by Olympic paint. On an opposite wall the color is med tone blue. I wanted this table to be lighter blue to lighten up the livingroom and give it a pop.  So I grabbed my can of trusty Zinsser cover-stain in the oil-base primer and my foam brush and went to town. I love Zinsser, it offers outstanding adhesion and stain killing power and is dry in a couple of hours.

Next, I mixed two colors together to get the color you see on the side table, Olympic’s lunar eclipse and georgian silver to come up with my own custom color. Both of these are zero VOC’s and latex satin. I painted my table, then using a glaze mixed with Minwax Ebony, I glazed the table.  Using 120 grit paper, I scuff it up and then sealed it with Minwax Wipe On Poly.

The door handles were spray painted with Krylon ORB paint.  The side table looks great.
