Chile Death (China Bayles Mystery, Book 7)

The previous novel ended with a big surprise so I had to grab this one off my shelf and dive right in to find out what happens next to China and McQuaid. They are coping with their new reality (no spoilers) in unexpected ways, but they have each other and are drawing closer. McQuaid is rejuvenated when they become embroiled in two mysteries at once: the death of a local insurance salesman at the annual chili cookoff and thefts at the local rehab/nursing center. Things become more complicated as they learn more about each crime and their friend, Ruby Wilcox, helps out as usual. These books have good stories and they seem to get better as we go along as the relationships deepen and thrive in the little town of Pecan Springs.
