really liked it
bookshelves: audio-books, depression-era, western-lit

Ever since I read and loved "Dancing at the Rascal Fair", I've been looking for a used copy of this book to read. Finally found one last year and did my double thing of alternately reading and listening. In the end, I listened more than I read because the reader on the audio book was great and I enjoyed listening to him while sewing and doing dishes. This was a great story of a monumental summer in the teen life of Jick McCaskill, wherein he becomes an adult. It is told with Doig's trademark humor, truth, and lovely writing. Some people complain that his books are slow but that's the beauty of his books. Kick your feet up and just bask in the ride. A great story from Ivan Doig. Again.
warning for gentle readers: liberal amounts of good, old-fashioned Western cussin'
flag
