The Women of Brewster Place
by
by
This is a searing portrait of 20th-century life for several different black women who all end up in the tenements of Brewster Place in an unnamed northern city. Each woman's story is told individually, but all the stories intertwine. Each one is sad and haunting and the only redeeming thing is that most of the women are still left standing at the end-battered and defeated by life-but standing. (language alert for gently readers)
