What's for Lunch?

Sometimes (okay, most of the time), cooking for one person is hard.

After spending more than half of one's life with a husband, when he's gone forever,  it's often too lonely and too doggone sad to make a meal just for one's self.

When the thought that there is shrimp in the freezer pops into one's head, bam!,  the problem of what to have for that day's lunch is solved.

A shrimp cocktail sounds delicious.

Miraculously, the refrigerated green lettuce pieces in the plastic container have not turned to mush.

They are still crisp and tasty. There is cocktail sauce for dipping the fat little shrimp into, then savoring the taste.

There's water with sliced lemons and ice cubes, too, served in a pretty red glass goblet.

It's important to treat ourselves by using pretty red goblet glasses, Old Country Roses china dishes, napkins, and so on.

Ahhhh, the delicious lunch is over.

A Plaque Says It All...

Sometimes, the words on a plaque are much more than decorative.

 They carry a powerful message.

One white plaque with gold letters that was purchased years ago, says it all.

It reads, "Love Is more Precious Than Gold."

How many times in life has that precious saying come into focus?

Truly, when you think about it, having gold brings a great feeling of security and  joy.

It's always great to get gifts as well as give them.

But oh, having love is so much better.

It enhances the precious moments of life.

It brings immense, bottomless joy to a person and fills the heart to the very brim.

Love, indeed, is far more precious than gold and gold is nothing to sneeze at.

Love, however, fills the human spirit to the max and makes life so very worth living.

It is hoped that the message of the plaque in today's blog resonates with  you and brings you the great gift of life------love.

DO YOU BELIEVE LOVE IS MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD?

Hunting for a Thrifty Frame

This week during a stop at an out-of-town Goodwill, the hunt was on for a frame.

A dear friend from a family we have loved for decades had given a truly gorgeous painting of a jungle scene.

So many members of the family are immensely talented artists.

Because the painting was frameless, it has never been hung but that is about to change.

There in the Goodwill thrift store, a gold frame looked to be a nearly perfect size for the jungle scene painting.

I bought it, brought it home, cleaned it up, and removed the glass front.

The painting's edge could barely fit the top of the frame.

With a hammer to the rescue, I got it into the frame, minus the glass.

It's not perfect but the frame looks classy and the painting remains gorgeous.

Sometimes in life, there is a happy ending to a problematic situation.

In addition to the frame for the painting, I came across a very elaborately framed African-looking print with graceful dancers.

It joined the gold frame and will eventually  be part of a wall art gallery in the apartment.

DO YOU PREFER ART TO BE FRAMED?
