E Strings

The busyness of Holy Week is passed. I’m slowly recovering after losing my dear Aunt Lizzy last week. Hopefully we’ll be returning to regularly scheduled programming shortly. In the interest of such pursuits, it’s time for . . .

Friday Fictioneers for April 25.

The challenge: Write a 100-word story inspired by the photo prompt.

Play along by writing your own, reading others and/or commenting on the flashes we fictioneers create.

My piece weighs in this week at exactly 100 words.

“What was that? You trying to get us killed?”

“What? We got the vamps.”

“No thanks to you.”

“Seriously? I dealt the first blow.”

“With a Taylor guitar.”

“And I was about to finish him off.”

“Finish him off? Because blunt force trauma is effective on vampires? All you did was destroy a perfectly good guitar. Did you even attempt to use your stake?”

“Of course. Vamp number two knocked it out of my hand.”

“After you alerted him by whacking his friend over the head.”

“Well, excuse me for living. I can’t stand listening to the undead sing karaoke.”

Since this week’s prompt features actual people that may or may not be recognized by others, although I do not know them myself, please note that the preceding flash is entirely a work of fiction and any similarity to actual events is purely coincidental. In other words, the men portrayed in this picture are not, to my knowledge, actual vampires or vampire hunters.

Prayers are with you in your loss. May happy memories soon fill the void.

    Good writing this week! 🙂

  2. Marie, that last line had me laughing in sympathy and I enjoyed your disclaimer as well. If a guitar broke, wouldn’t that provide more stakes or do they have to be specially designated as stakes when made?

Sorry for the loss of your aunt.

Thanks so much, Janet. I suppose a bashed-in guitar could create some makeshift stakes for our heroes to use, but unfortunately they have lost the element of surprise.

Glad I made you laugh. I had fun with that last line.

      Cheers!

This really made me laugh, especially this line:’Because blunt force trauma is effective on vampires?’
    Lovely writing 🙂

  4. Dear Marie Gail,

I can’t get the image of the singing undead out of my mind…no matter how hard I try. 😉 I love the dialogue…but a Taylor??? I know musicians who’d have a contract on your undead head. Always good not to use names in the most recent sense, eh? (wink, wink).

Happy to hear that things are on the upswing.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

I imagine the use of the Taylor is in no small way part of the reason our “hero’s” partner is so upset. Originally there was a reference to United Airlines, which also has a knack for smashing Taylor guitars unnecessarily, but I had to cut that bit for the word limit.

At least the it just the image of the singing undead you have stuck in your head and not the sound.

      Peace,
      Marie Gail

  5. So sorry about the loss of your aunt. I guess they don’t have a film clip of a singing vampire to go with a piece like this. I guess no one who’s tried to record one has survived. O_o Well done. 🙂

“Well, excuse me for living” — cracked me up 🙂

  7. “listening to the undead sing karaoke” HA! Pretty much listening to anyone sing karaoke is bad. Somehow my husband and I invariably stop in bars in unknown cities and Ta-Da – it’s karaoke night. Good story.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting. I’ve only had the misfortune of experiencing karaoke once, and that was a particularly horrible night on a number of levels. I try to stick to trivia nights. Those can be humorous without reeking havoc on the eardrums.

      All my best,
      Marie Gail

  8. That would be annoying :/
    Sorry about your aunt.

Dear Mairie Claire, I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your Aunt Lizzy. Grief is unique to each person to deal with, but God Bless You. Now, your story was hilarious! The un-dead on karaoke. You are so good! Great writing! Were they any good at singing? Nan 🙂

    • storydivamg says:

Thanks so much for reading, enjoying and commenting, Nan. As well as for the condolences.

As to the undead singing karaoke, I’m guessing they weren’t very good or else that poor Taylor guitar might have fared a little better.

      All my best,
      MG

Sorry, Marie Claire for misspelling your name! Nan 🙂
