First off, I owe apologies to all my fellow Friday Fictioneers. I fear I have been terribly remiss in my reading and commenting over the past two weeks. I plan to remedy this.
My excuse: My time has been spent promoting a dear friend’s new business venture and dealing with my health. But this week I am dedicated to reading your stories.
And as it goes with spreading yourself too thin I also had difficulty writing. As you know each week our host Rochelle provides a photo prompt, this week copyright John Nixon. The goal is to write a 100 words based on the prompt. And in the end what arose this week was a poem.
Life is Cyclical
Entwined winding through infinities.
I figure eight.
The branches of my lineage stretch
cracking under the weight
DNA hardwired.
Wrinkles marking time
Rings of elders
imbuing my visage
Three generations to heal
hope
for any lasting change.
Once suspended,
I grew.
A germ of consciousness,
Wee ovum within my mother
housed for a time
amid my grandmother’s womb.
Water fed.
I scream
endlessly echoing
into the infinite
a succession of birth,
death
rebirth.
This transmigration of lives
repeating
As my body pulses
D minor.
Its golden ratio plays,
counterpoint’s mastery
I am rooted deep.
But after talking with my coworker I should have simply posted this video.
Glad you are doing better 🙂 and very lovely story, i quite liked the flow and structure..good take on the prompt, title and short lines- DNA hardwired, D minor were my favourite.
D Minor is my favorite. And the hardwired DNA is my nemesis these days. Thanks Cam.
Beautiful poem! I love your interpretation of the photo.
Thanks Judah
Dear Dana,
Glad you’re doing better. Beautiful poem. It puts me in mind of Joni Mitchell’s Circle Game. And the seasons they go round and round..
Your poem has the same thoughtful sweetness.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Rochelle, Oh that’s perfect. I love that song. And the thought that my poem brought it to mind. Dana
What a lovely grasp of time and our connections with our past. Great metaphor with the tree rings.
Thanks Helena. I was pondering the weighty bits this week and it inevitably produces poetry. 😉
Good job Dana! I like it! Thanks, Nan
Thank Nan.
This is lovely Dana and so well written. I do hope you are feeling better and that your friend’s business is doing well.
Life has a habit of getting in the way of my writing sometimes, which, given the number hours in any day is as it should be I suppose. At those times I feel frustrated and wonder when I am ever going to get back on track… and then I do.
Take care
Dee
Dee I soooo feel this way. So much so I took the day off tomorrow to catch up on life. My friend’s business has started making sales which is great. And my health….I feel good but it is a process after the big C. Lots of scans etc.
Hope you’re feeling better and that your friend’s business is doing well. Real life has a way of intruding on the blogosphere sometimes and that’s as it should be (although it can drive me crazy, too.) This is a poem that can keep you reading and thinking for a time. Tree-mendous job. 🙂
janet
So far so good on both accounts. Life does demand to be paid attention from time to time. Thanks Janet.
beautiful… i went dark on this prompt so it was refreshing to read yours 🙂
Thanks Shaddie. I’ll make sure to check it out.
This is so beautifully written, as the poem seems to circle around itself. The pace allowed me to slow down and truly let each word sink in. I admire your talent to gain such profound inspiration from a single photo. I’m also glad you’re back and really enjoy the beautiful header.
Thank you so much Adelie. I appreciate the feedback on this one. For some reason I was struggling with this weeks prompt and decided to go an entirely different direction and let out a little prose.
