Learning to Write Your Name

My youngest Mary has been wanting to learn to write more of her name. She has learned all the letters and she can write them on her own, but she wants them all together.

We have made her name with the ABC Sensory Bin and sorted ABC buttons with letters in her name. She knows her letters really well, now she came up and said I want to write my name!

She have been tracing the letters on a Chalkboard 7″X10″. She has used her fingers and chalk to do this.

We had printed off the letters with the stop and start from the Romping & Roaring ABCs. I had them in sheet protectors so she could work on the letters of her name when she wanted.

I decided to change it up on her. I took the pages and cut out the letters from the Romping & Roaring ABCs and glued them on a paper.

I put it in a sheet protector and put in Mary’s busy book. She loves having it there! She has traced it so many times. She also says start at the star and stop of the red stop.

  1. I like this! My 4-year-old is getting frustrated by not being able to write her name. (I’m wishing I gave her a simpler name, like “Ann” – 2 letters to learn!) We’ll have to try this technique. Pinning it!

  2. Thanks SO MUCH for your printables. Being snowed in is no fun when my kids (ages 4 & 6) want to go to school. I found your blog by chance and used parts of your “Little Red Hen” packs. Two hours of “school” were the result. Thanks again!
