Dear readers, here I am with another dual post: closing a sensational 2013 group and welcoming the fresh run of a 2014 candidate.
As someone who cherishes so many elements about real books and carefully makes a place for them, scoring my wish list at a discount is a must. Snatching sales in bulk saves money and stocks our home beautifully, should there be snow storms lasting a century! Like never before, ‘reading challenges’ have me diving into my wares. I feel like an athlete getting to do SOMETHING with an activity that isn’t usually a sport. A multitude of groups invite you to fit your own selections into themes, much like planning out chess pieces. Determining where each subject, author, or publication year might go is my favourite part.
“OFF THE SHELF” 2013
This is a favourite, wide-open. I don’t think length factors; short story or novel. All this wonderful Australian wants is for your pieces to have been collected earlier than the current year. Almost all of my material fits this shoe, so it doubles as a quantity-counter of everything I read! In 2012 I joined with level 30, ‘Making A Dent’. This year I comitted to 50, ‘On A Roll‘. I have surpassed 75, ‘Flying Off’ and 76-136, ‘Hoarder‘! This is my conclusion of a satisfying event!
There are extra guidelines for fun. This year they seem to read as targeting books that relate to a specific country. Previously the mission was to see how many countries you could incorporate, in setting or author origin. I don’t see why I shouldn’t continue to interpret the bonus guidelines like that. When I joined the book community and their related festivities, I was disinterested in really fine-tuned themes. I preferred not to squeeze authors or titles into tight criteria, for my mission is aways to select whatever is already among my vast shelves. I wouldn’t purchase anything to suit a particular era or nation and titles based on colour seemed as ultra-specific as it could get. But there are a lot of colours in my possesion and I now find it fun to mix and match them too. Here’s to “Colour Coded” 2014!
1. “BLUE” or (Turquoise, Aquamarine, Navy).
2. “RED” or (Scarlet, Crimson, Burgandy).
3. “YELLOW” or (Gold, Lemon, Maize).
4. “GREEN” or (Emerald, Lime, Jade).
5. “BROWN” or (Tan, Chocolate, Beige).
6. “BLACK” or (Jet, Ebony, Charcoal).
7. “WHITE” or (Ivory, Eggshell, Cream).
8. Any other colour (Purple, Orange, Silver, Pink, Magneta).
9. Word implies colour (Plaid, Paisley, Stripe, Shadow).
Update: In February 2014 I introduced a dual reading theme, including a colour pallet. I encourage quantities to rise above the minimum in all three of my groups. So I decided to have fun, linking for Bev other colours that came my way.
