"By Gone Era Treasure"...

Recently I won a giveaway @ The Frosted Gardner http://frostedgardner.blogspot.com/2010/12/one-for-me-and-one-for-you-giveaway.html
You cannot imagine how excited I was to win this projector... The memories of "Our Families Movie night" are embedded in My Favorite Things... It was SO Much Fun when Dad would announce he was setting up the projector AND my brother and I had the job of setting up the screen... Do you remember those old screens we had??? Mom had gotten ours with "Green Stamps" and I thought it was SO Futuristic!
How about some sweet old songs to play in the background?
We have a special guest coming so Mom has set an extra place for tea...  My Dad needed LOTS of room on the table for "SPLICING"... Do you all remember splicing??? It was a major part of movie night and came with "STEPS"...First there was a "SNAP"... Then there was a "BLANK SCREEN"... Then Dad would yell "LIGHTS"... Next was "INTERMISSION"!!! everyone would scatter and Dad would be mumbling that if we didn't "STAY PUT" he was "Packing Up"... My Dad had ALL the newfangled gadgets and whatnots to get the film back rolling as QUICK AS A FLASHHHHHHHHH!!! Sometimes the steps above would be repeated 2 or 3 times in the course of the evening...

And the Sweet Background Music Plays On...
This little pottery set is "Prinknash Pottery" from England... The Little Puzzle Jug has a mark on the bottom that identifies it as Dragon Pottery Rhayader, made in Wales... The Prinknash Abbey Pottery was founded in 1942 by the monks when they discovered a seam of clay during some building work... Their work is typically red earthenware often with a metallic glaze... Mine is all "gun metal glaze"...
This is the look of anticipation of the moving pictures OR the fresh baked cookies that are about to come out of the oven OR "Both"...
Watching movie or slides was always SO Much more fun that getting our pictures taken... Do we all remember those "Blinding" camera lights and Dad telling us to look up at the camera as we "Scrunched out little faces in the most painful of looks"??? I'm sure if there is a man in the moon he saw those lights beaming out into space... It didn't matter that they were inside the house because they had the power to penetrate walls!!!
"Movies & Cookies"!!!
My Brother Loved it when Dad would let him help...But then Dad would be watching Joey and not the movies...
Add caption
A few of my newest treasure finds...
Our Guest has arrived...Mr Gary Cooper's daughter has joined us tonight... She is such a fan of "Old Films & Slide Shows"... It's So wonderful to see her again...
"Ms Maria Cooper Janis was such a special lady who loved her father more than life itself"... I first met her at the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut when she published this book about her life with her Famous Dad... This Abbey is not far from where I live... The Nuns are the sweetest accommodating group you could Ever Met!  The day Ms Cooper was there,  not many people came to see her BUT she was accompanied by James Douglas... And with us were Skitch Henderson and Richard Widmark(Who all live here)... We have lost Mr Henderson and Mr Widmark since then... I had also met Patricia Neal at the Abbey. My Mom was with me that day and Ms Neal and my Mom had a fine time together... This is the Abbey's website http://www.abbeyofreginalaudis.com/sitelive/index.htm
This is where my Prinknash Pottery was made by "The Benedictine Monks of the Abbey in Granham"... Gloucestershire...

The frosted Gardner is who made my post possible this evening... It was their generosity that gave me my focal point for this wonderful "By Gone Era Treasure" and brought back so many precious memories ... Please drop in to their "Land Of Blog" where you will see how talented Melanie and Mike are as a
team... They give Old Furniture New Life again in the most Beautiful ways... You will want to Follow them in their adventures... I LOVE their Blog!
Thank you again, and again Melanie and Mike for my Slide Projector, it has become quite a conversation piece in our home and has been claimed by my youngest son who plans on re-cording it so we can use it with our own slides...

Dear Donna,
your post is for me like a wonderful movie, telling stories of the old times. With this brownish colors you catched with your pictures the spirit of our childhood so well. Congratulations for this wonderful giveaway, I see how exited you are and this is so sweet. Nobody else as you should have this wonderful projector. I think, Melanie and mike will have a lot of fun when they see your happyness.
In your posts are always so many wonderful items, staged to a new life, so I have to look carefully to realize everything. The dolls are so nice and so naturally. Any yes, they really look like Cookies & Movie. LOL
I had never heard about Prinknash pottery but was very interesting and the metallic glaze is wonderful. My dear, you would be a very talented movie stage director, are you sure that you are in the right business? I would visit all your movies!
Hugs, Johanna

What wonderful memories of movie nights. Sadly, we didn't have a movie projector or camera while growing up. In fact I have never even owned a movie camera! I feel left out. No movie pictures of my kids!! Oh well, my memory will have to play the reruns as long as it keeps remembering LOL

Congrats on the win. You mentioned green stamps. My Mom would collect top value stamps. I remember us many times riding the bus to the store to pick out some goodies My Mom had so wanted. I still have one thing that we got, an orange and red glass vase. I gave our Son a set of ceramic ducks for his wedding that Mom and I had gotten with the stamps. It was more of a memory for him about has Grandma.

I love the photos-so sweet. I was interested that you mentioned the Abbey in CT - the Prioress there is Dolores Hart. She was a movie star and the only movie I remember her being in was "Where The Boys Are" with Connie Francis. I thought she was wonderful and wrote my first, and only, letter to a star. She answered it, with a photo and at Christmas sent a Christmas card with a design she had created. I wasn't truly surprised when I heard she had become a nun.

This post is adorable .. love the teacup and saucer ... with the black/white! I thought surely I was the only person who remembered "splicing"! In high school, I had a job as a film librarian for regional schools. Splicing came with the job! Almost every movie that was returned had to be spliced! Technology sure has come a long way! Thanks for sharing ... and prompting these memories!

This was one of the most beautiful posts I have seen in a long time. Such beautiful photos and wonderful stories. We had a gizmo, I cannot remember what it was called, that you looked through and put slides in. We did not have a movie projector when I was a little girl not even TV's yet. Those dolls are priceless.

What a great feeling to see all your wonderful items displayed in such a nice arrangement. I'm crazy about the doll outfits. Did you make them, buy them separately, or did they come with the dolls? They are great.

What a great post...you brought me down memory lane, but for me it was my Grandpa who did all the film making! We did get to help with the screen though...what fun!!

Donna-You were the absolute perfect person to win the projector. No one else would have appreciated it as much or done it justice! I seem to remember a lot of frustration associated with our family movies! Those dolls are incredible! Thanks for sharing your memories and talent with us!

Donna, what a beautiful post. Your dolls are so wonderful! So lifelike and so sweet. I loved seeing the pottery and your beautiful tablescape.
I am sooooo amazed at the pic of your cottage buried in snow. It's hard to imagine that much snow. Your cottage is beautiful year around but there is something magical about seeing it enveloped in snow. You must have a fantastic furnace to stay snuggy warm in all that snow.
Amazing photo!

What beautiful pictures and yes, a memory tickler for sure! My Dad loved gadgets and had an 8mm movie camera, so your description of "splicing" etc. certainly hit close to home. I think my Dad would have loved computers and all of the gadgets we have now. Thank you for sharing!!!

Yes, I do remember the bright light of the 8mm camera! We had those made into a vcr tape at one time, but haven't transposed them to dvd yet! A lot of fun memories for the whole family...:) Your win is a very sweet one!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

I need to look for a projector. I have several old 8mm reels that my mom left me - I'd love to see what's on them!!

You're vignettes are always so beautiful!

Aaahhh...what sweet memories. We occasionally would get out the film projector or the slides and sit for hours watching our family movies. Usually when the cousins came to visit. I have all of the slides but I don't know where the films are. I really need to search my Mom's house and see if I can find them. They are Treasures!!! Thanks for the reminder of those sweet days gone by...I miss them!
Also, thank you for joining my Friday Pretties. I have had so much fun over here. :)

I loved our family movie nights....and slide shows featuring the handy dandy carousel. Remember how the film would burn if it stayed under the light too long? I still have my daddy's camera. I keep thinking that some day I'll try to use it again. I love the Mackenzie Childs plates in concert with the black and white check on the doll's clothing. Great technique. Thank you for sharing your charming design. Cherry Kay

Oh yes, that brought so many memories of movie nights. I inherited my Dad's movies, but I haven't gotten up the nerve to see if the projector still works. Fun times.
