Right-handed Washi Tape

All you righties out there will know that there's such a thing as left-handed and right-handed scissors. And most all of you will know that there's left and right-handed sports gear, like ball gloves and hockey sticks. Some of you might even know that there are left and right-handed kitchen products like knives and ladles. [Don't believe me? Watch this video. (Well, maybe not the whole video. It's pretty dull. A WOTE video it is not.) And, yes, that first example is how every piece of bread I've ever sliced looks. Don't even get me started on ladles. I'm talking about those ridiculously deep ones with the little spouty thing on them. If I go to a community supper they always have those ladles. And I end up looking like a total goober as I either try to pour the gravy or whatever forwards onto my plate or just slop it out the other side.)

A few of you will even have noticed some other less obvious things lefties do differently than righties. First of all we're smarter and better looking. Bwahahahahahahaha, kidding. I put that in there to see if anyone is actually reading this. Seriously though, lefties will do little things differently than righties that are barely noticeable (and really of little consequence but, hey, you didn't come here for anything deep, did ya?). Stuff like, making circles clockwise; never using erasable pens; "going" left, (which can make hugging or cheek kissing an awkward experience seeing as both parties are moving in the same direction....not that I really tend to do either myself) and, when my kids were young there was always the "other foot" dance we did as I would always pick up a left shoe first and they would always extend their right foot first.

And that's just a small sliver of the left handed vs right handed differences. If you Google it, you'll see a bunch of things about left-handedness, and how we think differently, scare easier, don't live as long blah, blah, blah. I don't know how much of that is actually true and based on science, but I know this for a fact. Lefties are FAR better at using their right hands than righties are at using their left hands. FAR better. And, that's not bragging. I use my mouse with my right hand. When I worked in a grocery store in my teens I punched in all the prices with my right hand (scanners were just coming in as I was going out) and let's face it, the world is designed for the 90% right handed population, rather than us 10% so we've just naturally adapted to being able to use our right hands whenever necessary.

I really didn't think much about specifically being a left handed paper crafter.....well as long as you don't factor the whole scissors issue in there, (If you want to read about me and left-handed scissors you can click here.) until I came across a roll of right handed washi tape. Now, I've been known to jokingly say when I couldn't use an item, or make it work, "it must be right-handed" but this tape actually is right-handed. Don't believe me? Go to your stash and grab a roll of washi tape that has words or specific pictures of something on it, not just washi that's coloured or patterned. (If you don't have any washi tape like that, grab a roll of masking tape and write, "JanR really needs to get a life" on it. It will be a good substitute for this experiment.) Go on, I'll wait.

*hmmm hmmmm hmmmmm hmmmmm hmmmmmm*

Got it? Okay, now peel a bit off the roll like you're gonna stick it down on some paper (don't rip it off!). No biggie, eh? Stick it back on the roll. Now, pretend you're left handed. So, you're gonna want to hold the roll in your left hand and pull off the tape with you right hand. See! See! Look what happened! Your tape is upside down when you do that!! Told ya - Right-handed Washi Tape!

And, because I am so versed at using my right hand, I was able to persevere and I managed to make this card.

Okay, I was being a bit melodramatic with that last sentence. But, in truth, the fact that there could be right-handed washi tape did surprise me a bit. Think I could convince Queen & Co. to spin off a few rolls in the other direction just for us southpaws?  tee hee

Digi is from Birdie Brown. Did you know she's closing her shop at the end of November? Boy, did I wail when I read that!

And, I think lefties can wail louder than righties.  But maybe that's just this ridiculous loud lefty.

  7. Lol, Jan you just crack me up. Never thought of it before but now I see your point about right handed wash tape. I am right handed luckily but my Mum and sister are left handed. For some reason Mum could teach me how to knit but not my sister and vice versa for crocheting. Love your card....

  30. Love this card, but your post...very funny and informational. Never thought about ladles being made for righties, or the "going" left bit! Lefties always intrigued me. And my daughter may or may not turn out to be one... I am terrible at trying to use my left hand. Thanks so much for playing along at Get Inky! Challenge this week. -Thia

Okay, so ever since I started my blog (well, maybe not right from the get-go, it was probably a good six months or so before I realized you could change it from just "Leave your comment") I've tried to come up with something witty to type here.

*sitting with brow furrowed in concentration*...*staring at the ceiling while pursing lips*...*resting with head on hand while tapping foot*...

Nope, I still got nothing.
