Damien watched from a corner of the gallery.
Art critics poured over his latest ‘installation’ marvelling at his creativity and insight to the modern world.
Camera’s flashed and reporters asked daft questions, spurred on by the furore of the moment.
‘Heartfelt portrayal of society.’ one reviewer stated. ‘Reflections of a misguided ideal.’ said another.
Damien didn’t care. It was just some trolleys in a puddle surrounded by naked idiocy to him.
He left, smiling to himself, clutching the cheque for £2million and silently laughing at his favourite childhood story – ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’.

I had a very simliar take, though from a slightly different angle. I like the cashing in on people’s gullibility. The faux refinement of the art set. Funny thing is, I even named my post what dmmacilroy called it! Well done.
The picture really lends itself to your story. I do wonder sometimes what Damien is really thinking.
You can laugh at the idea of Oldenburg’s “Clothespin” as well, but when viewed with an open mind, true beauty can be found in the creative interpretation of everyday objects. Good story about the artist who’s in it for the bucks.
I agree. And the viewer needs to engage with the art using his/her own creative interpretation, too. Needs to learn the language of the artist. In other words, you get out what you put in! Ann

Oh, very, very good! I like that he at least knew what was or wasn’t going on and good tie-in with the Emperor and his clothes or lack thereof.
