{Get Crafty} And the Winner Is.....

This trophy cup (and me!)
Do you remember when I brought it home looking like this?
I have been looking for a silver trophy cup but haven't been able to find (or afford) one.
This brassy fellow sat up on the shelf for a few weeks and really didn't look bad but brass just isn't my thing and I had other plans for it.

The hardest part of this project was removing the #@%*& Goodwill sticker. I don't know what they use as adhesive but those suckers are they stickiest stickers EVER! I finally had to break out the Goof Off to remover the offending sticker and residue.  I took it outside and gave it a dusting too (it had been on my shelf after all, it was bound to be dusty).
Out came the spray paint. I was so excited to spray paint something again!!  So excited, that I forgot to get a photo of the front of the can. It's Krylon Metallic with the shiny silver cap.
I gave it about 4-5 light coats. It was a dry, sunny day(oh how I miss those!) so the coats dried quickly.  I taped up the base and covered it with a plastic bag.
When it was dry, I brought it inside to paint the base.  This time I taped up around the base of the trophy.
I used two coats of acrylic craft paint.

Once it was dry, I took off the painters tape and was very happy with the results!

The vine-y design on the cup is so pretty and the silver makes it really stand out.  There is no engraving on the trophy cup so I'm not sure what it was for, I'm thinking a Chili Cook Off or Fantasy Football League?

It doesn't matter to me because I love its black and silver sleekness!
I don't know where it will end up but for now it's doing quite nicely as a vase (with a smaller glass of water inside) holding some hydrangeas.

Oh I love this trophy. I didn't think it would be my cup of tea, but when you put the flowers in it, I saw it totally differently.
When I go out to Trader Joes today I will hit the 3 thrift stores on the way (I plan my route anywhere depending on where the thrift stores are),and look for some trophys.
Thanks for being so inspiring.

OK I never thought I would like or know what to do with the trophy's I have kept from my kids. Now I can see them in a different light. Espically since you added the flowers. Off to the garage for me. Thanks for fresh ideas.
