Well, not really. I’m actually feeling pretty good today. I’ve caught up on some laundry and housework and updated my dining table. The reason for the title is this beautiful blue table runner. I purchased it several months ago, then put it in the bottom drawer of the buffet and forgot about it.
I saw it a couple of weeks ago and thought, “I need to use that!” So here it is…
I chose this blue runner (a very inexpensive Fred’s purchase) because of the pastel blue color; I knew that it would pick up the light blue in my Noritake Reverie dishes. I normally use the pastel pink or yellow to accent the Reverie pattern, so I was wanting to do something different. You may not even automatically realize that the pattern has that pastel blue color in it until you look more closely.
I have never, even after almost 34 years, gotten tired of this Reverie dinner plate. Isn’t it gorgeous?
I decided to use the bread and butter plates for this table.
Then to top them off, I chose these crystal fruit bowls. They are Depression glass; I am not sure what pattern. They belonged to my grandmother; I can remember eating ice cream out of them when I was a child. She almost always had a carton of ice cream in the freezer.
I used my Grosvenor silverplate and the white napkins to match the tablecloth.
The napkin rings are clear square Lucite ones that my mother-in-law gave me a while back. I really like their look.
I don’t normally use the cups and saucers much, so I thought that I would get them out today. Then I added my tulip-shaped pink goblets that look so good with the pattern of the china.
I was very pleased with the place setting, so I moved on to the centerpiece.
Since I was using the cups, I thought that I should use the teapot, creamer, and sugar. After all, why have the cups out if there is nothing to put in them?
Then I decided to use my Dollar Tree crystal votive holders. However, I didn’t have any votives that looked right on this table. I broke my longstanding vow to not spend any money on my tablescapes! I’ll go ahead and admit it; I ended up at Dollar Tree looking over the candles. I was pleasantly surprised to find these pastel blue tealights which were perfect for this table!
Then, because I like to use stones to add color when using white and/or crystal, I just had to purchase these light blue stones as well.
They were perfect to add to the crystal candy dish to make it show up and to scatter along the table as well. So I’ve overspent my tablescaping budget by $2.00. I am not happy with myself for my weak resolve, but I am happy with my purchases!
Back when eBay was first gaining popularity, I was able to inexpensively add some pieces to my Reverie china, including this vegetable bowl. Can’t do it any more! Things on eBay, at least the things I look at, have gone sky high! But there’s always Dollar Tree…
Does anyone else have a weakness for buying things for decorating that you don’t really need? Surely I’m not the only one! Leave me a comment below and have a great week!
Bev, I too am a retired teacher who has just discovered Tablescaping, and boy, oh , boy, I have been spending at Dollar Tree, thrift stores, and garage sales. I’ve always loved china and everything that goes with it, and so finding Tablescaping has been like coming home. Of course I don’t “need” any of it (including adding a second buffet to my original one and my three china cabinets), but it really is fun finding treasures. I don’t have a blog yet; so far I’m just practicing and learning from those of you who so generously share you efforts. .
Sounds like you and I have a lot of similarities! I know you will love tablescaping as much as I do and hope you will put some photos online when you can.
What a beautiful table! I love to add whimsical items to my table, there is just so many wonderful things you can do! So glad I stopped by from Assets and Efforts! I’m a first time poster there and hope you stop by to see me!
No joke about the prices on ebay!!! I got some deals way back when… now I have to check the web first to see if I can find things for less. The beautiful china looks stunning on the blue! Love the pieces on the centerpiece. A wonderful table.. xo marlis
I did not notice a thing about your pretty post that would make me blue. Nicely done.
