Pianissimo, baby, Pianissimo

It’s rumoured that the discord is being conducted by a 1978 Boosey & Hawkes alto saxophone in hiding under concert stage somewhere in eastern Europe.

The uprising has been a long time in the making. Abuse and neglect of Instruments has been rife for centuries especially since music-making has become a middle class aspiration and the number of third rate music teachers had risen exponentially. And then, abuse as entertainment – think Hendrix, think Townsend.

The trouble is that with any protest movement, there will always be a faction that gets out of control. This time it’s the pianos.

Brilliant – perfect set up for the last line. One of my favourites this week.

  3. I wonder if there is more harping among the instrument… that would be a hard blow…

  4. Dear Patrick,

Bad enough what Hendrix did to guitars. I shudder to think what an insane musician might do to the noble piano. Good one.

  5. Hendricks and Townsend were pretty rough on their guitars.

  6. I wondered if somebody would take this turn.
    Well done.

An Animal Farm for musical instruments. Well done in 100 crochets. I might have liked it even more had it been written to a distinct rhythm. I am thinking about marching music, but the tune that begins to play in my head turns out to be the Arabian Dance from Nutcracker. Here’s a link for your entertainment! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nukNxlMpPmw. You wrote words, I got music! Thank you! Ann

  8. There’s always someone out of tune! As for your double bar, can we belly up to it? That was fun, Patrick.

Isn’t there always someone who will spoil it for everyone else? Love the ideas in this, although ‘…abuse as entertainment…’ – I suppose that’s the freedom-fighter/ terrorist argument all over again.

Who will win? How can we possibly fight back? Our Hendrixs and Townsends are few!

Viva La Plinky! Plinky the piano that is!

  15. A SPECTRE is haunting Europe – the SPecial Executive for Colossale, Tutti, Risoluto et Eroico. Let the middle classes and third rate music teachers tremble! Pianofortes have nothing to lose but their tuners. WORKING PIANOS OF ALL COUNTRIES, UNITE!

I'd love to read what you think ...
