really liked it

I was a little skeptical of this series, although it was recommended to me by a friend who's not into sappy books, so I should have trusted her. When it was chosen for my neighborhood book club, I read it and found that it was deeper and more insightful than I'd supposed. It's the story of a young couple who go to Missouri to stay with her Grandmother until the extended family can arrive for Christmas and send her to a nursing home. During her stay the young mother, Katie, struggles with redefining her small family's lives and her relationship with her husband, her career, and struggles to make peace with her estranged father and sister. The grandmother writes stories of her early life for Katie to find that teach her about life and family. I liked the stories and was interested to read in the discussion guide that the stories came from the author's own grandmother. It was a solid story with some good messages about family, forgiveness, and faith.
