Evening was coming, and I lit the hurricane lamps on the table. I needed to clear away my shopping cart from the table before they came home. But instead I sat down and looked over the counter, out the windows and beyond….past the rooftops of the houses across the way, and into the sky itself.
I wondered how they would survive, these people living in my house, after I was gone. Who would light the lamps, clean up after them, take care of 101 little things that houses need done? Would they even notice I was gone? Would they instead blame each other for things falling apart? Probably not. But they’ll be sorry when their home no longer has its Brownie!
Dear Julia.
Your story takes me back to stories of brownies my scout leader used to tell us. Sweet and unique tale.

Rochelle
Thank you so much for the compliment, Rochelle! I thought it would be an interesting twist to the story.
Oddly, I have the same thoughts about my Hubs. Who’s going to help him when I’m gone. And I feel that time growing closer everyday.
Oohhhh….I know that feeling!
I loved this. You kind of had the same view I had, looking out the windows and seeing what was beyond. Could I borrow your Brownie?
I’m glad you loved it! You can definitely borrow my Brownie! LOL
What a different twist, Julia! I enjoyed how you worked the little shopping cart into the story. Could my house Brownie be dark chocolate (although that might dangerous for him/her!!)?
janet
LOL If my house Brownie was dark chocolate I would have caught him a long time ago! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
oh I had to look up brownie, and could just notice that it’s quite similar to the little elfs that was part of farms in the old time. Nice to see they modernize.
It would be interesting if all houses had Brownies! 🙂
I liked this! Why would the Brownie go?
Perhaps the people living in the house don’t believe in magical beings….
Silly.
