“A Leprechaun is a type of fairy in Irish folklore,  usually taking the form of an old man, clad in a  green coat, who enjoys partaking in mischief. The Leprechauns spend all their time busily making shoes, and store away all their coins in a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If ever captured by a human, the Leprechaun has the magical power to grant three wishes in exchange for their release.” Wikipedia

Like the little Leprechauns you too can have your very own pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Here is a simple and fun kid’s craft to get in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day (which is held on March 17th of each year to remember one of Ireland’s patron saints, St. Patrick). This easy St. Patrick’s Day craft requires very few materials which are easy to source from either your recycle bin or backyard. Kids of all ages, including the toddlers and preschoolers, just love all the paint and glitter. Best of all the lucky “pot of gold” just sparkles in the sun.

Things you need:

  • Plastic container with lid attached (I used a container for strawberries)
  • Paint (Black, Green, Yellow/Gold)
  • Glitter (Black, Green, Gold)
  • Paint Brush
  • Rainbow colored popsicle sticks (or you can paint the normal ones)
  • Four-Leaf Clover Cardboard Cutout
  • Scotch Tape

 Step-By-Step:

Step 1: Paint the rocks with yellow or gold paint. (Note: A bright yellow shows up better than gold).

Step 2:  Sprinkle gold glitter on the painted rocks.

Step 3: Paint the plastic container black.

Step 4: Sprinkle black glitter on the painted container.

Step 5: Paint the cardboard four-leaf clover green.

Step 6: Sprinkle the lucky four-leaf clover with green glitter until it is fully covered.

Step 7: Tape the popsicle sticks together in the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)

Step 8: Once the paint has dried, tape the four-leaf clover to the inside of the container.

Step 9: Tape the rainbow popsicles to the outside of the container.

Step 10: Place the “gold” rocks inside the container.

Step 11: Wait for a little Leprechaun to find the gold and grant you your three wishes!
