{EASY} Kitchen Chalkboard…and a SuRpRiSe!

Yeah…It’s the weekend!  This has been a Long, but Fun week at our house…I am looking forward to a fairly uneventful weekend {secretly hoping I get bunches of little projects done…cross our fingers!}

For Lent, my sister decided rather than give something up, she would complete one Pinterest inspired project per day…So, as any good sister would do, I stole was inspired by her idea and am doing the same thing!

Today, I finished this Pinterest inspired Chalkboard on the unfinished end of my kitchen cabinets:

Chalkboard Art {onekriegerchick.wordpress.com}

I have been wanting to do this for a few months…Finally had the chance one day when the boys were gone.  It was sooo easy!  If I had known, it would have happened much sooner {maybe}.

What you’ll need…

Chalkboard paint (mine was from Lowe’s)

small smooth foam roller & tray

painters tape

damp cloth (just in case!)

…And here’s how I did it…

Start by sanding or applying a coat of gripper to the area.  Most cabinets have a slick topcoat and the chalkboard paint is likely to peel and/or scratch off if you do not prep the surface.  Carefully tape off the area you would like to paint.

Then, paint at least 2-3 coats of chalkboard paint allowing adequate drying time between coats.  After your final coat, allow the chalkboard to sit at least 24 hours before writing on it…

And that’s it!

My boys LOVE this new addition to our kitchen area!  It gives them something {quiet} to do while I am cooking, etc.  I love seeing their little drawings!  If I were to do it over again, I would have applied magnetic paint under the chalkboard paint…Just a thought if you decide to tackle this project.

Just Because We Love You…We Have A SuRpRiSe for you on Monday!!

You will definitely want to check back in…It’s pretty SWEET!

I’d LOVE to hear what Pinterest has inspired you to do lately…
