A Valentine Conversation

I really like doing tablescapes for Valentine’s Day.  I like pink dishes a lot, which you already know if you read my blog. I also like using red and white together. But most of all, I just LOVE Conversation Hearts. These sweet little candies that only appear once a year are the perfect inspiration for Valentine’s Day decor, not to mention the fact that they taste great and are very inexpensive.

Using Conversation Hearts as my influence, I decided on a playful rather than a romantic Valentine’s Day table.

I started with my red placemats which you last saw at Christmas. These were a great antique mall purchase ($1.00 for all 4) awhile back. Because I want to emit a casual vibe, I used this great mix and match cutlery (an old online purchase).

Then I added my white Nikko octagonal white plates. These plates were an antique mall purchase back when I first started tablescaping ($5.14 for all 4!), and I have used them a lot. Their color and shape make them invaluable for great tables.

Then I layered these cute heart plates. They were an eBay purchase a long time ago. I don’t remember what they cost, but if you know me, they were very cheap.

I decided to use these thrift shop wine glasses with black stems (.99 each). I thought that some of the conversation hearts that I purchased would look cute in the glasses.

I picked up these conversation heart buckets at Target a couple of weeks ago for $1 each. Aren’t they cute? I just love them, but had a hard time deciding how to incorporate them into the table setting.

Then it struck me. I purchased these Conversation Heart napkins from the Napkin Lady for last year’s Valentine table. I bunched them up and stuck them down in the buckets for a cute, playful look.

I actually found this centerpiece at Super 10 a few weeks ago. For $5, it came with the tray, the votive holders, the diffuser, the reeds, a small container of scented oil, and the glass beads. I added a few of the hearts for interest and to continue my theme.

In my continuing quest to do tables as cheaply as possible, I spent $1 on the candy, $2 on the buckets, and $5 on the centerpice. Everything else I had already. I am pleased with the final outcome. Hope you like it as well. Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!
