Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Psalms 119:105
How to beat the winter doldrums? I read this question on a blog this week (Sorry, I read a lot of blogs, and if I could remember which one, I would give you credit).
We have had some crazy weather here in MS, not at all unusual for this time of year. When the temps were in the upper seventies a few days ago, my jonquils and narcissus started bursting out every few minutes. But because thunderstorms and cooler temps were predicted, I picked the blooms so that the rain wouldn’t beat them down.
I also knew that I would want a pretty bouquet in the house once the weather cooled down. With the return of cool temps this morning (it’s about 40 as I write this about 10:30 a.m.), I started thinking about having a hot cup of tea.
Then I remembered my new Friendly Village items. I showed you the teapot earlier, and mentioned then that I was still searching for the creamer and sugar. I found them last week! I got them at a good price on eBay, not as cheap as I would have liked, but not too bad, either.
As I thought back over the ways to beat the winter doldrums, curling up with a hot cup of tea and reading a good book came to mind first. With these things in mind, I set up a teascape on the coffee table in the living room.
Since I use a spiced tea mix rather than the kind that requires additions, I really just wanted the creamer and sugar for looks. So what better place to put the lovely bouquet? I pulled them out of the large vase where I had placed them earlier. Then I cut off the stems and put them in the creamer. Flower arranging is not one of my strong suits, so I just tried to make the bouquet look full and luscious and not droop down to cover the picture of the Old Mill.
What book to read? Well, the best one available, of course. I read a daily devotion plus I am reading the Bible through in a year, which I do every year or two. However, my downfall is that I do not have a regular time/place to do so. I manage to get it done, but am hit and miss with it throughout the day. I am trying to get better at that this year. Having a nice cup of tea while curling up on the couch just might be a good start to my being more focused in this area of my life.
I put the teapot and mug of tea on my Gail Pittman tray. I love this tray, and I like the way the set looks on it.
I was very happy with the finished look of this simple teascape. The great lagniappe of this look is the wonderful springy smell of the narcissus! Not having allergies, I love the scent, but my husband is rather sensitive to smells. I will probably have to move the bouquet when he gets home this evening. But until then I will breathe it in happily!
Is there a better cure for the winter doldrums than a hot cup of tea, spring-smelling flowers, and the word of God?
I can’t think of one! Have a wonderful, wintry day!
Enjoy this old favorite of mine.
There were lots ‘o tea posts at VTT today!
By the way, I’m LOVING your coffee table. Is that an antique blanket chest or a hope chest? It is gorgeous.
I love that chest. It caused me to “remember” the cedar chese I kept trinkets and dishes and cups and saucers in as a child. Your tea scene is lovely!
I love that chest also! When I first saw the pic of those gorgeous azeleas at the top of you blog I knew you had to be from the South, then I read you are from my beloved home state of Mississippi! We hope to return to Ms. when I retire the end of this year, I can’t wait!
Thanks for all of ya’ll’s compliments on my chest. It is an antique cedar chest with copper embellishments that I inherited from a great aunt.
I’m glad I got here after everyone else had commented on your cedar chest. I was going to ask about it too. So pretty and especially nice that it belonged to your great aunt. Great minds do think alike. I love that you also used jonquils with your Friendly Village tea set. I think you have arranged them beautifully, and what a wonderful spot to sit and read while you drink your tea. Have a good weekend. laurie

I read that same blog today using that word. Darn, not sure if it was Babs or Kathy. lol! Oh well, I know just what you mean. I love your friendly village. I have only one small pitcher that I found at a thrift store. I had never heard of it before. Just thought it was so cute. Since then I have seen it all over blogland. Hope to find more. There’s nothing quite like a cup of warm tea to help chase away the Winter blues. Love yours in the tray. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
