Kira didn’t have an artistic bone in her body, yet each night she found herself in a strange world where her hands skillfully coaxed marble into art. Each morning she tried to convince herself it was a dream, but she couldn’t deny the blisters or the marble dust under her nails and the unknown faces that clung to her day. Disturbed at first, she used caffeine to avoid sleep and the dreams, but now she welcomed them, knowing something wonderful was waiting for her when she finished, Nestling into the pillow, she smiled, eager to finish.
Mysterious and spooky.. I hope the sculpture doesn’t come to life once finished and do her harm.. I’m thinking of the next level for your story..:-) There can easily be a sequel.. Great story.
That would be enough to keep me awake at night. Well done.
Ooh – how does that work – a dream that she wakes from with dust under her fingernails? Intriguing.
Ah, give into the dream. Kind of like “if you build it they will come,” this could go in so many different directions.
Mysteriously nice…I like very much. Well done
Yes very mysterious. I would love to know what develops.
Very interesting supernatural story. Good job!
oh I really like this. Dreaming is the only way I am able to paint. This captured that experience for me.
This would have to be me, doing sculpture at night, because I certainly couldn’t do it during the day!!
On an unrelated note, have you considered a different background? I find it difficult to read on this one.
janet
Actually, I never notice the background, hmmm. You may be right. I should shake things up a bit. thanks!
Very interesting slant. I enjoyed reading this very much, thank you, Penny
Loved this story. There is a guy called Lee Hadwin who draws in his sleep – he can’t draw at all when he’s awake, but produces all these artworks in the middle of the night. So, I guess this is art imitating life, or something 🙂
Good start to a wonderful romance or a horror story!
Well done,
Scott

So she’s dream sculpting… interesting. I wonder if she knows what it is that she’s making? Good read.
Very intriguing. Does she sleepwalk, is she being transported away in the night; physically or mentally? Hmmm, makes you wonder. Well done.
A good story. It looks like both our characters see images in their dreams they cannot let go. They often inspire what we do in real time. 🙂
Very nicely done and very intriguing. Well done http://readinpleasure.wordpress.com/2013/02/01/fridayfictioneers-janus
There is another unwritten story hidden here. Just like I love.
What a strange situation – it could be her imagination if not for the details of stone dust and blisters, especially the blisters! I wonder what’s happening to her? Good job.
That was great.
Straight out of something Carlos Castenada would write. i enjoyed this piece very much.
Aloha,
Doug
There was a period in my life when night after night I’d have vivid dreams. Sometimes more than one per night. I used to go to bed each evening looking forward to what I’d dream that night. I wish they’d made me get up – like your character – and do some artwork! Or do I? Ann
Love the idea of the artist being driven by forces outside her control, and that she welcomes it too.
Hi S.T.,
Crossing the line between the dream world and reality made this story mysterious and haunting.
ron
Artistic dreams. So much double meaning!
Sleep sculpting. That’s a new one on me!
Very nice~ It reminds me a lot of my take on the picture, although I like your more positive look at it; the artist looking forward to sleeping. I decided to go a little more sinister with mine.
